This is a purple leafed form of the Common Dog Violet which grows wild in this country on grassy heaths and open woodland. Pale violet blue flowers with darker markings appear in Spring above clumps of heart-shaped purple leaves, ht 10cm. Will grow in most garden situations except very wet or very dry and when happy will seed itself about.
