The 'encrusted' Saxifrages or 'Silvers' as they are sometimes known are so called because of the deposits of lime on the tips of their leaves.
The aptly named 'Polar Drift' has rosettes of grey-green leaves with a good amount of silvering and the added bonus of sprays of white flowers in May on tall stems.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-drained soil beside paving, in border edges, rockeries or containers.
